After a storage failure some VMs had troubles. Creating a snapshot or to consolidate the VM fails with the following error every time:
An error occured while taking a snapshot: msg.snapshot.error-QUIESCINGERROR
File „VM.vmx“ line 0: 5 (Input/Output error)
The resolution was very easy – just vMotion the VM to another host. So no downtime of the virtual machine is necessary.
I did not try to reboot the VM as I read some threads in forums that the VM will not boot any more when this error occurs.
